🤯 The Green-Screen Truth: Why Real Conversations Still Win

I’ve been bamboozled.

For years, I was utterly convinced that the viral trick shots by channels like Dude Perfect were the result of endless hours in a gym—a pure monument to practice and perfection. They were the aspirational gold standard of "putting in the reps."

Then, I saw the video: Green screens, cleverly edited cuts, and motion-capture suits. 🤫

It wasn't just practice; it was Hollywood-level technology and movie magic. It was the digital version of a "deepfake." And the question that hit me wasn't about basketballs, but about business:

If trick shots can be faked, what else are we mistaking for real?

The Siren Song of the Faked Launch
The product itself—the stunning, impossible shot—is still incredible. The sheer effort to pull off the fake is a kind of mastery.

But for the founder staring at their screen, trying to figure out how to take their first step, that's where the deception lies.

We live in an era where the internet constantly rewards the appearance of effortless scale. The feed is full of gurus promising a "million-dollar business with zero employees," all thanks to AI and automation. It's the digital equivalent of a green-screen set: the final output is flawless, but the messy, grinding process of getting there has been edited out.

We confuse scaling (the technology-driven multiplier) with starting (the human-driven slog).
We mistake the finished, polished AI-powered launch for the genuine, awkward, and essential first steps of finding a customer.
This is the central conflict of the modern founder: How do you build something real when everything around you looks perfectly synthesized?

🎙️ Podcasting: The Human Antidote

Technology is not the enemy. AI is here to stay, and it will revolutionize every industry. But as the digital world leans further into perfection and automation, it creates a massive competitive vacuum for one thing:

Authenticity.

This is why I love podcasting.

Podcasting is the anti-green screen. There is no faking the raw, unedited, human voice.

You hear the natural pauses.
You hear the mid-sentence correction.
You hear the thought forming in real time.
The simple act of hitting record and having a genuine, unscripted conversation is a robust human truth detector. It forces the speaker out of their perfect online persona and into the vulnerability of just being human.

In an era of deepfakes and automated outreach, a real conversation is your moat. It's the clearest signal you can send that you value connection over clicks, and substance over style.

The Resolution: A Call to Record
Technology has its place, and we need to have an urgent, ethical conversation about when and how to apply it. But for every founder who feels overwhelmed by the scale of the "perfect" businesses they see online, take a deep breath.

Your first step is not a bot. It’s a call.

Don't spend your time modeling the scale of a billion-dollar empire. Spend your time talking to your first customer. Get on the phone. Get on Zoom.

Record it.

Because while a trick shot might be easily faked, a significant, honest conversation never is. And in the new digital age, that authenticity is the only trick that truly wins.
